ABOUT ME

In the Silence, Something Stirs

Writer of haunting fiction and quiet horror that lingers in the corners of the mind.

Meet N.B. Cross

N.B. Cross writes fiction that lingers in the space between sorrow and the surreal. His work explores memory, isolation, and the quiet unease that slips into everyday life. Whether it’s a town that forgets itself or a boy haunted by something only he can see, his stories often begin where certainty ends.

His debut short story collection, Static Between the Trees, gathers tales of strange disappearances, looping time, and emotional echoes. Each piece balances literary depth with an eerie atmosphere—haunting, but never hollow. He’s currently working on Stonebound, a novel about friendship, myth, and decay in a small lakeshore town.

”The stories I write don’t knock, they wait in the dark until you notice them.“

Inspired by abandoned places, faded photographs, and the silence of the woods, Cross writes to illuminate what’s left behind. His fiction doesn’t offer easy answers, but it invites you to pause, to feel, and to follow something just out of sight.

Stories that whisper. Music that mourns. Towns that never leave you alone.

What Moves Me

My writing isn’t fast. It drifts. It hums. I follow texture and tone before plot. I often start with an image... an empty cabin, a photo left behind, a light flickering in the woods and build outward from there. I write toward the feeling I can’t name.

The result is fiction that’s not always tidy, but always personal. There’s sadness in it, and stillness, and the ache of something lost.

Why I Keep Writing

I don’t write horror to frighten. I write to uncover. To feel something I haven’t felt in years. To remind myself that even the strangest places can feel like home.

Whether it lingers or fades, I’d love to hear what found you here.
